Habitat Furnishings Review

Habitat Furnishings is a Louisiana based company producing latex mattresses and pillows since 1994.

They use 100% botanically derived natural latex from Sri Lanka (Dunlop). They state you should always ask wether it's 100% botanically dertived but they're the only company i've noticed calling it natural latex "botanically derived latex" so i think it's just a phrase they invented.

An interesting bit of information from their site states approximately 2500 rubber trees, taking up 12 acres are need to produce 1 Queen mattress. Each tree drops about 15 grams of liquid latex daily.

Three different mattress models are offered that differ in firmness are all 6 inches thick. They also offer an 8 inch and 9 inch thick mattress that use the same layers of Dunlop topped with a layer of Talalay that they say is more yielding, giving and has better body conforming qualities. With these two models they add a water based adhesive to permanently bond all of the layers together. The cover is natural cotton and has a zipper for easy removability but needs to be dry cleaned.

The pricing for their mattresses range from $999 - $2499. If you suffer from latex allergies it looks like you'll be fine since they have the proteins removed from their latex by rinsing and squeezing it 3 times.

Shipped by UPS they offer free shipping to the 48 mainland states. Their mattresses are compressed and wrapped in plastic covering, boxed and shipped out. They claim once removed from the box the mattress returns to its original factory shape in 5 minutes. Delivery is 12-14 calendar days from date of purchase order.

They offer a 20 year limited warranty. The first 3 years are 100% and the next 17 are prorated. A 180 day trial period is offered in which you can return the mattress for any reason minus a $75 shipping charge that is deducted from the refund amount. 2 free pillows are included with the purchase of any mattress.
